Sharpening Your Communication through Transactional Analysis: One-day workshop

Whenever we communicate, we want people to understand what we are saying, and think/act in line with our expectations. However, we often end up in situations when our communication does not have the intended effect. Sometimes people completely misunderstand what we say, sometimes they ignore us, sometimes they get what we say but refuse to accept our point of view, sometimes we can’t put across our point assertively, or worse still, the communication breaks down midway. While a good grasp on language helps, the secret to effective communication is much deeper than just language skills. Transactional Analysis provides a ready methodology to dig deep into how we are made up mentally, how we relate to others, and using this awareness to sharpen our communication skills.
What is Transactional Analysis?
Transactional Analysis (TA) is a theory in Psychology developed by Dr. Eric Berne in the late 1950s. Simply put, TA focuses on transaction—the fundamental unit of social intercourse—to study interactions between individuals. The methodology involves identifying the three ‘ego states’ of the mind, which Dr. Berne called Parent, Adult and Child, and using this knowledge to analyze transactions between individuals.
How will this workshop benefit you?
This workshop will demystify the principles of Transactional Analysis, helping participants see conversations in terms of transactions. Participants will engage in a lot of conversations (transactions, in TA terminology) and armed with the knowledge of TA, will be able to analyze these transactions in terms of interaction between the ego-states of the mind. At the end of the workshop, participants will be able to accurately identify their strengths and weaknesses based on their individual psychological makeup, and work on modifying their communication for maximum impact.

About the Trainer
Sonali Ghosh is a seasoned Corporate Trainer & Psychotherapist with a rich experience of creating and delivering Training for Industry as well as Academia, especially in the areas of soft skills like Communication, Storytelling, Personality Development, Creative Writing, Interview Skills and Presentation Skills.
